The year 2020 was difficult one for the hotel industry, whereby, the services were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. The government in India, however, after many successive lockdowns, allowed the hotels to resume operations across the country, however, only if specific safety guidelines were implemented. Despite months of operations, the travel and the hotel sector has not picked up the pace, and the services are not being operated to the best possibility.

In a conversation with Mumbai Live, Radisson Goregaon's Hotel Manager, Santosh Singh, shares the insights about the business, COVID-19 effect and how the hotel plans to resume operations.

On being asked about the government's move in allowing hotels to reopen, he said, "Its an extremely welcome move by the government, the hospitality sector especially the hotel and restaurant business was the most affected due to this unfortunate scenario, however, the government has been rightly cautious and allowed the businesses to open in a phase-wise manner."

Sharing his thoughts about how the festival and holiday season has and will help the hotel industry to recover, he added, "The upcoming festive season will help the restaurants to get some foot fall back, as far as hotels are concerned leisure’s market is slowly gaining the volumes back and festive season will only help, for business hotels though hotels are floating some really good staycation packages but I personally don’t think it will have a major impact."

While addressing the main concern about safety at Radisson Goregaon, Singh added, "The Radisson hotel group reviewed our existing health and safety processes and developed a new safety protocol. This new disinfection and cleanliness protocol was developed in partnership with SGS. We at Radisson Mumbai Goregaon strictly follow these protocols suggested by corporate team, our implementation has been assessed and approved by SGS. Most of the safety and disinfection protocols were already a part of our processes, I think most of these sanitization process are here to stay as it only helps us keep our property safe and disinfected."

Talking about the measures taken for the staff members taking at the hotel to ensure their safety, he added, "Our team members are our assets , these are our front line warriors hence it’s our priority to give them conducive environment to work, at Radisson Mumbai Goregaon we have provided all our staff with all the necessary PPE gears , we do their thermal scanning at regular intervals, we do regular oxygen level checks, all our back areas and staff dining areas have to be realigned to observe physical distancing, staff who stay far off are provided accommodation within the hotel premise so that they avoid traveling in crowded public transport ,in an unfortunate incident of staff feeling unwell we have separate isolation rooms."

The star rated hotel during the pandemic entered the food delivery space with a focus to capitalize and gain the share in the market. The expert team of chefs redesigned the menu and added various delicacies. However, as far as the banquets are concerned, the hotel has seen a seen decent surge in demand for banquet and wedding queries, and most of the auspicious dates are already sold out. The hotel, currently, is holding events in a small capacity.
