Minister Amit Deshmukh makes initiative to screen Marathi cinema at International Film Festival

The 157th meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Film, Theater and Cultural Development Corporation Limited was held at the Ministry on Tuesday, July 20, under the chairmanship of Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh.

For the last few years, the best Marathi movies have been being sent to the Goa International Film Festival by the Department of Cultural Affairs.

Moreover, Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Amit Deshmukh said that initiatives will be taken to screen Marathi cinema at the Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Sundance and New York Film Festivals to be held from September to November 2021.

The 157th meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Film, Theater and Cultural Development Corporation Limited was held at the Ministry on Tuesday, July 20, under the chairmanship of Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh.

The meeting was attended by Manisha Verma, Managing Director of the Corporation, Saurabh Vijay, Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, Aanchal Goyal, Co-Managing Director of the Corporation, Vilas Thorat, Deputy Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, Bibhishan Chavre, Director of Cultural Affairs and other officials of the Corporation.

Deshmukh said that in order to make Marathi films available in a wider global market and to make Marathi cinema famous internationally, the best Marathi movies will be included in various international film festivals in the near future.

However, in the forthcoming 52nd International Film Festival to be held in Goa in November 2021, the best 10 Marathi films will be sent under the Film Bazaar of the National Film Development Corporation. Apart from this, various activities should be organized by the corporation and the National Film Development Corporation.

Films selected for the Cannes Film Festival

'Kadugod' and 'Mee Vasantrao' have been selected by the committee members for the Cannes 2021 International Film Festival. In the meeting, the producers/directors/actors of the respective organizations were congratulated for the selection of these two films by the officials present at the meeting along with the Minister for Cultural Affairs Amit Deshmukh.

In the meeting it was discussed regarding the reservations for the rental of filming places and art galleries in Chitranagari area, make-up materials available to production companies as per package, implementation of new initiatives to boost tourism business due to coronavirus, implementation of corporate social responsibility scheme at the corporation level, annual accounts for the financial year 2020-21 and board report were approved.
