Renowned Indian singer Pandit Jasraj passed away at the age of 90, on Monday, August 17, 2020. He suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away in New Jersey (US). Information about his demise was shared by his daughter Durga Jasraj.

Renowned celebrities and personalities shared their condolences on social media, President Ram Nath Kovind took to Twitter and said, “Music legend and unparalleled classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj’s passing makes me sad. Spanning a distinguished career of over 8 decades, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj, enthralled people with soulful renditions. Condolence to his family, friends and music connoisseurs.”

Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi, said, “The unfortunate demise of Pandit Jasraj leaves a deep void in the Indian cultural sphere. Not only were his renditions outstanding, but he also made a mark as an exceptional mentor to several other vocalists. Condolences to his family and admirers worldwide.”

Pandit Jasraj celebrated his birthday January this year and was felicitated with the prestigious Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. His work was respected amongst the music industry and he contributed to the Indian music space for over 80 years through classical vocal music. He started training at the age of 14 and belonged to the Mewati Gharana, where he was introduced to the art form by his father.

In September 2019, International Astronomical Union (IAU) named minor planet 2006 VP32 was named after Pandit Jasraj, and as per reports, it is located between Mars and Jupiter.
