K-pop phenomenon and one of YouTube’s most-subscribed personalities with over 20 million total subscribers, WENGIE, released her first-ever EP titled “COLLABS VOL. 1 (INT’L VER.)” which is available on all digital streaming platforms, starting November 6, 2020.
The focus track for the EP is her Hindi collaboration along with India’s pop-princess Shalmali and rap superstar Ikka. The three artists blend together their unique styles in a complimentary blend of bi-lingual vocal, melody and Hindi rap. The result is "Thing You Want" - a smooth bop beat with soulful feel-good vibes.
The song’s accompanying music video is a “K-pop meets Bollywood” collaboration never-before done. Wengie shot four of the five song’s music videos locally in each of her collaborator’s native countries to capture their authentic roots, with the exception of India, due to COVID-19. With that, Wengie has decided to release her first animated music video with “Thing You Want” featuring two of India’s biggest superstars.
Talking about the same, Wengie said, “I grew up listening to all kinds of music in different languages which is why I love the fusion of sounds from various countries from around the world. I love exploring different cultures and encourage diversity so it was wonderful to work with talented artists from around the world and sharing that with my fans, you can say I like making content that's universal! I hope all our fans enjoy this EP and the new song out with Shalmali and Ikka was super exciting because I grew up surrounded by the Indian culture and wanted to show appreciation to my fans there. They were amazing to work with and this song is the thing you want right now!”
Sharing her thought, Shalmali said, “K-Pop has been an integral of Pop-culture for a while now, and it was one of the things I really hoped to do someday - work with a K-Pop Artist. When the Wengie collaboration came up, I was thrilled because it’s a form of music that I’ve been interested in exploring and with the Indian rhythmic elements in the mix! It was a delight chatting with, discussing and then singing ‘Thing You Want’ with Wengie. She is a sweetheart.”
“I was very excited when I first heard the idea of featuring with Wengie on ‘Thing You Want’! I like to collaborate with artists from every part of the globe and working with a well known K-Pop artist like Wengie was a different and amazing experience altogether - I said yes to the collaboration instantly. Shalmali too sounds excellent on the track,” Ikka added.
The EP showcases Wengie’s versatility where she performs in 6 languages (English, Tagalog, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin and Hindi) and has guest appearances from eight artists spanning across half the globe in the Asia-Pacific region.
The EP all-star production team consists of top global hit-makers and songwriters. Michel “Lindgren” Schulz produced the song “Thing You Want” and co-wrote with Wengie, Shalmali, Ikka, Melanie Fontana and GG Ramirez. Melanie Fontana and Lindgren are best known for working with Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, BTS, Dua Lipa and more.
The vast array of talent and wide-ranging diversity on this EP perfectly matches the beats with vocals on a different level not done before.
