Ahead of 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, continuing the exodus in a huge setback, six Congress MLAs will join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP President Chandrakant Patil. 

The Congress MLAs including Aslam Sheikh (from Malad), Rahul Bondre (from Chikhali), Kashiram Pawara (from Shirpur) will join the BJP here in Mumbai. 

Moreover, Sakri Congress MLA DS Ahire followed by Siddharam Mhetre (from Solapur) and Bharat Bhalke (from Pandharpur) will also join the saffron party. 

The induction of Aslam Sheikh in BJP will be huge setback to the Congress in Mumbai ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra which are scheduled on October 21. Sheikh has been a two-time MLA from Malad and won the assembly elections in the years 2009 and 2014.

Sheikh’s victory in 2014 assembly elections were possible because Shiv Sena and BJP contested the polls separately. Earlier, Sheikh was a Congress corporator from 2002 to 2007.
