All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan sparked a controversy with his statement saying that members of the Muslim community maybe 15 crore but they can give a fitting reply to the majority community if required.

Pathan, former AIMIM MLA from Mumbai’s Byculla, was speaking at a rally in Karnataka and the video of the same went viral on social media. Along with the opposition parties, AIMIM chief Asadaddin Owaisi also pulled up Waris Pathan for his remarks.

“They tell us that we have kept our women in the front. Only the lionesses have come out and you’re already sweating. You can understand what would happen if all of us come together. We maybe 15 crore but can give a fitting reply to 100 crore. We will snatch out freedom,” AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan said while addressing a public gathering in Gulbarga on February 16.

Pathan’s remarks sparked massive outrage in the opposition as well as on social media. Many have denounced the statement made by the AIMIM leader. According to media reports, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi barred him from speaking to the media until further notice.

It was learned that the top leadership of the AIMIM has dismissed the "inflammatory" remarks made by Waris Pathan and has given him a warning. “Party doesn’t approve of his comments. He is a habitual offender who needs to mend his ways,” an AIMIM leader told News 18.

Earlier, Waris Pathan refused to apologise for his "15 crore Muslims..." statement and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making such remarks. In his defence, the AIMIM spokesperson said that he will be the last person to talk against the country or religion.

The women in various parts of the country have come out to protest against the newly amended Citizenship act (CAA), the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population of Register (NPR).

In Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh and across the country, the women are leading the sit-in protests against the Narendra Modi government demanding the roll-back of the CAA and the proposed NRC, NPR.
