Amid the ongoing preparations by all political parties for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, it is being speculated that the star leaders of Congress including Milind Deora, Sanjay Nirupam and Urmila Matondkar might contest the state assembly elections which are scheduled in mid-October this year.

Earlier, during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress had performed poorly in Mumbai. Deora, Nirupam and Matondkar, all three lost the LS poll from their respective constituency. However, if the speculations are on point, these three Congress leaders might want to try their luck again.

According to sources, Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora might contest the assembly polls from Byculla or Mumbadevi constituency while Sanjay Nirupam may contest from Versova assembly constituency. Urmila Matondkar might contest Maharashtra assembly poll from Bandra. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard.

After Deora lost the LS election from Mumbai South constituency, the former Union Minister submitted his resignation from his post as Mumbai Congress President following Rahul Gandhi’s path while taking responsibility for party’s poor performance in the elections. However, Deora’s resignation was not accepted.
