Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Anil Gote wrote a letter to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis requesting him to dismiss the legislative council.
MLA Anil Gote has written in his letter that Legislative council is in existence in only 6 states of the country.
The Legislative Council has no constitutional right, the candidates who do not get elected directly seek entry indirectly via the legislative council.
Gote stated that legislative council has become a hangout for a bunch of frustrated politicians.
Prominent citizens used to be nominated to the legislative council in olden days. Stalwarts like GD. Madgulkar, Vasant Bapat, ND Mahanor, MG Vaidya, Vasant Desai had graced the Legislative Council, but now the it is being used to interrupt the work of the government.
300 crores of rupees are spent annually on the State Development Fund, salaries, allowances, free health care, development funds for these MLC's and hence it should be closed.
