Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Narayan Rane has slammed the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra expressing displeasure over its handling of the COVID-19 crisis and reiterated his demand to implement President’s rule in Maharashtra.

Rane said that the President’s rule should be imposed in Maharashtra as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has failed to tackle the coronavirus outbreak in the state. He alleged that the state was being run by bureaucrats.

The senior BJP leader further accused Thackeray of taking Maharashtra backward for 10 years amid the lockdown period. Rane said that he is of the view that President’s rule should be imposed in the state given the in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

While speaking at a press conference, Rane stated that Thackeray doesn’t step out of private residence ‘Matoshree’ and doesn’t cater to the issues of the common man. Notably, Rane was the first-ever Shiv Sena Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 1999.

“Does a state government exist if the Chief Minister is not in Mantralaya? For the past few months, there has been no CM in the secretariat,” he alleged.

Rane pointed out that 5,000 COVID-19 deaths are from Mumbai out of the 8,000 in Maharashtra. He added that the CM and state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh can hold meetings to discuss transfers of police officers but were not serious about the COVID-19 situation.

His remarks came after MVA leader Sharad Pawar, Anil Deshmukh on Monday went to Matoshree to clear the air and ensure smooth coordination on decision making.

Rane also said that the doctors and nurses were not getting their salaries due to the poor condition of state treasury under the leadership of Thackeray. The BJP leader had met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari earlier in May and demanded the imposition of President’s rule.
