Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Narayan Rane on Monday met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari amid the ongoing political tension between the ruling Shiv Sena-led MVA government and Raj Bhavan.

During his meeting with the Governor, Rane demanded that the President’s rule should be imposed in Maharashtra as the Uddhav Thackeray government has failed to tackle the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

While talking to the reporters, Rane said that the Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance in Maharashtra has disarrayed the administrative affairs in the times of coronavirus crisis.

“The MVA government lacked the capacity to run a government. Maharashtra should be put under President’s rule and the Governor should intervene,” Rane, former Shiv Sena leader said.

Rane, former Maharashtra CM and a Rajya Sabha MP now, said that Uddhav Thackeray was inexperienced who is not able to steer administration and the police force effectively.

Moreover, the conditions of hospitals run by the state government and civic bodies are pathetic, Rane said while demanding that the military should take charge of these functions and help in improving the situation on the healthcare front.

Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and NCP chief Sharad Pawar met Governor Koshyari in separate visits. After meeting the governor, Raut informed that there was no conflict between Uddhav Thackeray and Bhagat Singh Koshyari and that they shared a father-son relationship. Meanwhile, the Raj Bhavan labelled both the meetings as a "courtesy call".

The BJP in Maharashtra has launched “Maharashtra Bachao Andolan” (Save Maharashtra protest) against Shiv Sena-led MVA government to highlight the “ineffective handling” of COVID-19 crisis.

On May 22, the BJP leaders and workers across the state protested against the government wearing black masks and carrying black placards. Earlier, a delegation of opposition leaders from the BJP led by Devendra Fadnavis met Governor Koshyari and submitted a memorandum citing the failure of MVA government on various fronts.
