Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The NCP claimed that the meeting between the two was held on the invitation of the governor and no political issues were discussed.

Along with Pawar, NCP leader Praful Patel was also present at the meeting. While speaking to reporters after the meeting, Patel informed that this was a courtesy meeting and was not about any political issue or topic. It was a routine meeting at the request of Governor Koshyari, he added.

However, this meeting comes amid the tension between Shiv Sena and Raj Bhavan. Shiv Sena heads the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of which NCP is one of the key partners.

Earlier, the NCP supremo had raised objection to Koshyari’s intervention in the functioning of state administration. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had also expressed his displeasure over the same.

Both the leaders, Pawar and Raut, had complained to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Koshyari and said that he had authority but instructions must be routed through the chief minister and chief secretary to avoid multiple power centres.

Earlier, Governor Koshyari raised strong objections to the letter written by Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant to University Grants Commission (UGC) for cancellation of final year university examinations in the state amid the coronavirus outbreak.

In his letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier, the Governor wrote that the delay in conducting exams was not in the interest of students and not conducting the final year examination by universities was in breach of University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.

Earlier today, Shiv Sena slammed Koshyari for favouring the final year university examinations and said that his concerns were genuine but the state government can’t jeopardise students’ health amid the coronavirus outbreak.

On Saturday, Sanjay Raut had also met Governor Koshyari and the meeting was labelled as “courtesy call” by the Raj Bhavan. This came days after the Chief Minister skipped a review meeting called by Koshyari which hinted towards a cold war between the two.
