Until now the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) political propaganda was limited to polarization and saffronisation. However, as the elections are coming closer, the ruling government has started politicizing the schemes meant to benefit the poor. Earlier, the Modi government had asked to display the photograph of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister on the houses made under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY).

But now, under the Bharatiya JanAushadhi Prayojana (BJP), earlier known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana, the Modi government has cleverly tried to leave the mark of its party’s name and has printed “BJP” on the boxes of these medicines.

This scheme was introduced to provide the medicines at affordable prices to the patients and the name was later changed the ruling party as a part of the propaganda. Further, the first letters of every word are highlighted on the website, in saffron colour.

Congress has opposed this propaganda and a leader from the opposition said that the Modi government has changed the names of the schemes initiated by the UPA government. However, now it has strongly condemned this name change.

Congress’ spokesperson Raju Waghmare said that “During the 70 years, no government has ever used the government schemes for such political propaganda and it shows that to what level the BJP can fall. This publicity should stop immediately.”

Government have come and gone but this intensive and wrongful politicisation of the government (people's) schemes, which help the poor, has happened for the first time in all these years.
