With the election for the Mumbai Mayor’s post approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shortlisted two women corporators, Rajeshree Shirwadkar and Ritu Tawde as leading contenders for the position.

This year, the mayor’s post in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is reserved for a woman from the general category. The BJP, being the single largest party in the civic body, is expected to secure the post, prompting internal discussions on the final nominee.

Rajeshree Shirwadkar, who represents the Shiv Koilwada ward, has significant experience in municipal administration and has previously chaired important civic committees. Ritu Tawde, a corporator from Ghatkopar, is also known for her active role in civic affairs and organizational work within the party.

Several names were initially considered by the party leadership, but the contest has now narrowed down to these two candidates. Senior BJP leaders are holding consultations before finalising the nominee.

The mayoral election is scheduled for February 11, and the final decision is expected shortly. The selection is seen as crucial, as the mayor plays an important role in presiding over the BMC and representing the country’s largest municipal corporation.
