Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has warned of legal action if allegations linking his family to the 2020 death of celebrity manager Disha Salian continue.
Thackeray, speaking on the issue for the first time, said neither he nor his son, Aaditya Thackeray, had any connection with the case and described the continued allegations against his family as “character assassination”.
“If such allegations are made continuously, how long should one tolerate it?” Thackeray said, adding that he would pursue legal remedies if the campaign did not stop.
The remarks came after Salian’s father, Satish Salian, sent a Rs 500-crore defamation notice to Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh. The notice alleges that they made defamatory remarks about his demand for a CBI probe into his daughter’s death.
Aaditya had opposed Satish Salian’s petition before the Bombay High Court, questioning the motives behind the demand for a CBI investigation and describing it as politically motivated. Deshmukh had also expressed similar concerns.
Satish Salian has rejected those allegations as false and defamatory. His lawyer has also approached the Mumbai police commissioner seeking protection for him.
The development comes days after the CBI registered an FIR following a Bombay High Court order to investigate Disha Salian’s death. The FIR names no accused, though it states that the roles of several people, including Aaditya Thackeray, need to be investigated.
Aaditya has denied knowing or having met Disha Salian and has said that attempts to link him to the case are aimed at damaging his reputation.
