Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Anil Gote who wrote to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis requesting him to dissolve the legislative council since it was 'stifling' the ruling party members, has been silenced by the CM who has asserted that he does not Gote.

Gote has written in his letter that the Legislative Council exists in only six states of the country. The Legislative Council has no constitutional rights, the candidates who do not get elected directly seek entry indirectly via the Council. Gote stated that the Council has become 'a hangout for a bunch of frustrated politicians'.

Prominent citizens used to be nominated to the legislative council in earlier years, Gote said. Stalwarts like G D Madgulkar, Vasant Bapat, N D Mahanor, M G Vaidya, Vasant Desai had graced the Legislative Council, but now it is being used to interrupt the work of the government, he alleged.
