The students across the country are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which has been passed by both the Houses of Parliament.

On Sunday, the protest by students of Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) turned violent after police used tear gas and open fired in the university campus. However, the Delhi police have denied the claims of firing.

Reacting to this, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday compared the police crackdown on JMI students to Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

While talking to the reporters outside Vidhan Bhawan in Nagpur, Thackeray said that an “atmosphere of fear” was being created in the minds of youth with such actions.

There is an intentional effort to create an atmosphere of chaos in society. The way police opened fire on students by forcefully entering the university premises, it was like the Jallianwala Bagh massacre,” said CM Uddhav Thackeray.
