After Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government ordered an enquiry into the tendering process for the construction of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s memorial, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress welcomed the decision.

The enquiry on the tendering process of Shiv Smarak was ordered after the charges of corruption were levelled against the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government.

NCP leader Nawab Malik had earlier alleged former Maharashtra PWD minister Chandrakant Patil of “corruption” in this issue. NCP had raised the issue of corruption in Shivaji memorial project ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant informed that Uddhav Thackeray has warned of strict action against those found guilty in the corruption regarding the construction of Shivaji memorial.

Sawant further stated that the construction on the memorial will be resumed only after the completion of the enquiry. “The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi strictly stands against corruption and anyone found guilty will face consequences,” said Sawant.

The previous government had awarded the contract to the private entity, Larson and Toubro (L&T), one of the bidders for the project,” said Sachin Sawant.
