The implementation of the BMC’s improved rates policy for parking is underway in the jurisdiction of ‘A’ ward on experimental basis. When local BJP MLA, Raj Purohit, is opposing the implementation by citing the opposition of local residents, BJP corporator Adv Makrand Narvekar has stressed that implementation should go on. Narvekar has claimed that local residents have written in favour of implementation of this policy. This clearly indicates that politics on this issue is gaining ground and the BJP seems to be divided on this issue.

The A ward of BMC has invited tender for implementation of new rate policy for parking spaces. Purohit has opposed this policy and he had submitted a memorandum to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard. The CM had stayed implementation of this policy but it was lifted after a ruling from the court. Following this, the A ward administration has started implementing this policy. On Wednesday, Raj Purohit and local residents met assistant municipal commissioner Kiran Dighawkar to register their oppose to this implementation.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Colaba corporator Makrand Narvekar has supported the implementation of parking space rate policy and he claimed that he received written support from local residents on this issue. Colaba Residents Association, My Dream Colaba, Kaam NGO, Makers Tower Association and other 50-60 societies have expressed their support to this policy, he claimed.

Narvekar also said that local residents are fed up of vehicles parked on roads in this area and this new policy will provide a rightful parking space to local residents.
