Senior Congress leader Harshvardhan Patil is set to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections which are scheduled in mid-October this year.

Patil will join BJP on Wednesday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and party's state unit President Chandrakant Patil.

Sources inform that Harshvardhan Patil was disappointed over Pune's Indapur assembly seat and blamed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for "not supporting him". Patil lost the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections against NCP candidate Dattatray Bharne.

Earlier, Congress and NCP didn't contest the assembly polls together. However, both the opposition parties are in alliance for the upcoming 2019 assembly elections. Therefore, Patil is demanding to be fielded from Indapur assembly seat but NCP doesn't seem to agree.

Harshvardhan Patil further informed that NCP had decided to leave this seat for Congress in the presence Rahul Gandhi during Lok Sabha elections.

...therefore, we helped NCP candidate Supriya Sule in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and made her the winner. However, now NCP is not ready to leave the seat," Patil claimed.
