Mumbai – Congress MLAs took out a morcha on the State Bank of India’s headquarters here after raising slogans in the State Legislature on Thursday. SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya had opposed the loan waiver to farmers. This provided the Congress the ammunition against the government.

After staging their protest against Bhattacharya’s statement on loan waiver for farmers, Congress MLAs led by leader of opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, took to the street and headed for the SBI headquarters. They demanded an apology from Bhattacharya and threatened to lodge the breach of privilege against her. Congress legislators also tried to forcefully enter the SBI office but police stopped them midway.

After this protest, state finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, “Arundhati Bhattacharya should have studied the Directive Principles of the Indian Constitution before making such a statement. The Constitution states that poor sections of the society need to be helped.”
