Ghatkopar- BMC elections are nearing and political parties are hosting several programmes to woo the voters. On the same lines, Mumbai congress president Sanjay Nirpuman had organised ‘Uttar Bhartiya Sammelan’ at Ghatkopr’s Maniklal Ramleela Maidan. Here he spoke about how 12,000 North Indians were deliberately not given auto and taxi permits. “North Indian candidates were asked to give exam and they appeared for the same. Despite giving exams they were failed,” said Aarif Nazeem Khan, congress spokesperson. During this programme, corporator Pravin Chheda, Chandrakant Tripathi, Dr. Sanjay Sinh, Pramod Tiwari, Ajay Rai, and other congress workers were present.
The state government had decided to issue one lakh new auto rickshaw licenses but with the condition that the person seeking license must know Marathi. This move had stirred up the controversy then.
