After the CSMT bridge collapse, the opposition parties have been criticising the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with the ruling Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday demanded the central and Maharashtra government to scrap the bullet train project.

Pawar suggested that the government should utilise the funds to strengthen the suburban rail link and services rather than spending the funds on the bullet train project.

While talking to the media at a press conference, the NCP chief demanded a white paper report of the bridges in Mumbai. Pawar further said that the bullet train project is just a pretext and the ₹1.25 lakh crore being spent on the same should be utilised to improve the condition of the existing railway system and to repair the bridges.
