Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday informed that Mumbai Police will take legal action against writer Mehak Mirza Prabhu for raising ‘Free Kashmir’ placard during a protest at Gateway of India.

On Monday, the photo of Mehak Mirza Prabhu holding ‘Free Kashmir’ placard went viral on social media and created huge chaos.

The students and youth were protesting at Gateway of India for 35 hours straight against attack on Jahawarlal Nehru University (JNU) students until they were “relocated” by Mumbai police to Azad Maidan.

It was alleged that the police was not letting anyone come out of the Azad Maidan. Deshmukh said that Gateway of India was not a protest venue and students who protested there will not be booked.

Police have also spotted a woman protesting with a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard. We have identified her and will take legal action. We have also requested the protestors to not carry any such posters which may land them in trouble,” Maharashtra Home Minister said.

Earlier, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had defended the placard saying that it indicated freedom from internet bans and other restriction in the valley.

However, Raut had said that if the poster intended to demand freedom of Kashmir from India, “it will not be tolerated”.
