Amid the controversy over ‘Free Kashmir’ placard, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday defended the poster saying that it indicated freedom from the internet and other restrictions in the valley which was placed ahead of the government’s decision to remove Article 370.

While addressing the media, Sanjay Raut downplayed ‘Free Kashmir’ poster, which was seen at Gateway of India in Mumbai during the protest against attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students.

Raut, however, said that if the poster intended to demand freedom of Kashmir from India, “it will not be tolerated”.

I read in the newspaper that the ‘Free Kashmir’ poster was held by the protestor demanding freedom from restrictions on internet and mobile services along with other issues. If anyone talks of Kashmir’s freedom from India then it will not be tolerated,” Sanjay Raut said.

After the abrogation of Article 370, Kashmir has been kept under lockdown with internet bans.

The students and youth were protesting at Gateway of India for 35 hours straight against attack on JNU students until they were “relocated” by Mumbai police.

It is alleged that on Sunday night, groups of masked men entered the JNU campus in Delhi and "attacked the students and professors present there with sticks and rods while damaging the property in the university premises".
