Give hawkers licenses, not domiciles: Nirupam

CST - Chief minister has announced a policy decision on hawkers in the state cabinet meeting but it was taken under the pressure of Shiv Sena and the decision is wrong, said City Congress Committee president Sanjay Nirupam. He also demanded that hawkers should be given licenses. The town vending committee should be formed on the municipal level, he demanded to BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta. The population of Mumbai is around 1.25 crore and it can accommodate 3.25 lakh hawkers. There are around 2.25 lakh hawkers in the city, he informed. The BMC has taken action against 1.20 lakh hawkers. The law passed by the Parliament in 2014 should be implemented as it is in Mumbai, he demanded. On this occasion, former corporator and NCP leader Niyaz Ahmed Vanu joined the Congress party.
