The violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri has been making the headlines. In light of the events that transpired there, the MVA government in Maharashtra proclaimed a statewide band on October 11, Monday.

Opposition parties from across the country have been attacking the BJP-led government, demanding justice for the farmers who lost their lives to violence that occurred on Sunday.

According to reports, the farmers have claimed that a car from an escort that belonged to Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish ran over the protestors in the area of Tikonia. The protestors are believed to have returned from having conducted a demonstration against the Union’s three farm laws. The minister, on the other hand, has refuted these accusations. Instead, the minister claims that the protestors were pelting stones causing the driver of the car to lose balance, resulting in the unfortunate incident.

In order to stand in solidarity with the farmers, on October 6, the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition associates that include Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress in the state have proclaimed a band across Maharashtra on October 11. This decision was undertaken after the Cabinet meeting and Jayant Patil, senior Cabinet Minister and NCP state chief made the announcement.
