According to the latest reports, the NM Joshi Marg police in Central Mumbai registered a case against Kedar Dighe (42), Anand Dighe's nephew, who was recently appointed by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray as the new Thane district chief of the party.

Based on accounts, Dighe has been booked under section 506 of the IPC (Criminal Intimidation). A senior police officer was quoted in narratives elaborating on how they have registered a case against Kedar Dighr and his friend Rohit Kapoor. He added that Kapoor was booked under section 376 (Rape) of the IPC.

Similarly, Dighe was booked for allegedly threatening the complainant to ensure that she does not file a case. The official also voiced that the complainant approached the police on Monday, August 1 to register a case.

Anand Dighe was a prominent Shiv Sena leader from Thane and a mentor to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde rebelled against Thackeray and formed the government with BJP. Dighe was an important leader in Thane, until his demise in August 2001.

During Shinde's rebellion, he often used Dighe's name to justify his actions. Now Thackeray is attempting to enter the narrative by fielding Dighe's nephew, who till now did not play a prominent role in the party. The Thackeray leadership, however, hopes that this decision will help turn the tides in their favour.
