Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has named Anand Paranjpe to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha poll from Thane constituency. The Congress-NCP alliance candidate won from Kalyan seat in the 2009 national elections. However, Paranjpe had to face defeat in the 2014 general elections.
Earlier, Paranjpe was in Shiv Sena and was elected as an MP in the 2008 by-poll from Thane LS constituency. After leaving Shiv Sena before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Paranjpe joined NCP and contested against Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde from Kalyan constituency. However, Paranjpe was defeated by a margin of 2.5 lakh votes.
Paranjpe has been a Member of Parliament for 8 months after winning his MP's father's death in the 2008 by-election. Later, after leaving the Shiv Sena, he was defeated by Shiv Sena's Srikant Shinde, fighting the Kalyan seat from NCP ticket.
Paranjpe’s father was a veteran Shiv Sena leader. After the demise of his father, Paranjpe contested the 2008 by-poll and remained an MP for almost eight months.
At present, there are almost 14 criminal cases pending against Anand Paranjpe. However, the cases against him are linked to the political activities and Paranjpe has not been convicted in any of them.
In the year 1994, Paranjpe got his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and pursued his Masters in Business Administration. His education has been concluded in Pune.
As per the affidavit file with the Election Commission, Paranjpe has movable assets worth ₹2.6 crore and his wife possesses movable assets worth ₹4.15 crore. Paranjpe has declared the immovable assets to be worth ₹2.3 crore and his wife has worth ₹1.68 crore of immovable assets.
NCP candidate Anand Paranjpe can prove to be challenging for the incumbent MP, and Shiv Sena leader, Rajan Vichare in Thane Lok Sabha constituency. In the last five years, Shiv Sena has tried to increase its influence in the constituency. However, the vote bank still leans towards NCP in Thane area. It will be a tough fight between Paranjpe and Vichare.
