The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled on October 21 and people will vote to elect their representatives in 288 constituencies across the state. This year, a major change has been witnessed from the Ghatkopar East constituency as Parag Shah has been chosen by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) instead of former MLA Prakash Mehta.

Parag Shah possesses movable assets of ₹422 crore whereas owns immovable assets of ₹78 crore. Shah is the richest candidate from the state contesting for the upcoming Assembly Elections. While Shah is a notable candidate, his choice over Prakash Mehta put everyone in a state of surprise.

According to the affidavit submitted by Shah, he along with his wife are the owner of properties across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, he has flats in Chembur and is the owner of a bungalow in Thane, which as per his affidavit is a 5,710 sq. ft property worth ₹15 crore. Alongside, the three flats under his ownership are estimated to be worth ₹25 crore.

Also, his wife owns a Ferrari worth ₹2.47 crore along with jewelry worth ₹3.45 crore. On the other hand, the 50-year-old politician is the Managing Director of Man Infrastructure Pvt. Limited.

Candidates for the seat

Parag Shah will be contesting against Congress Party's Manisha Suryavanshi, MNS' Satish Pawar, and VBA's Jalinder Sarode.

Previous Results

During the 2009 Assembly Elections, BJP's Prakash Mehta had won after he received 43,600 votes against Congress Party's Virendra Bakshi who had received 37,358 votes. Meanwhile, during the 2014 Assembly Elections, Mehta had received 67,012 votes against Congress' Pravin Chheda and Shiv Sena's Jagdeep Chaudhary who had received 21,303 and 26,885 votes respectively.
