Who are these 813 Mumbai farmers who have got a loan waiver?

Mumbai does have a green cover but we did not know the city and suburbs boasted field lands as well.

The recently announced INR 1.5 lakh loan waiver for farmers in Maharashtra includes 813 farmers from Mumbai city and its suburbs. In a tweet from the chief minister's official handle, it was mentioned that the farmers, covered under the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sanman Yojana, would be granted loan waivers. These include 694 farmers from the city and 119 farmers from the suburbs.

The tweet gave a district wise breakup of the numbers of farmers who have been granted loan waiver, and generated a lot of online curiosity about the identity of these 'farmers' from the metropolis.

Would they, perchance, be the cultivators of the lush leafy vegetables that grow on the railway tracks in the city? Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is as perplexed as we are, going by his reply to a question during his visit to Pandharpur on Tuesday. He acknowledged having no knowledge of farmers in Mumbai and said the disbursement of loan waiver would be done only after cross checking all facts.
