CAA, NRC Protests: Congress and other allies to protest on January 24

Other allies to anti-CAA front constituted by Congress will also register their protest against CAA, NRC at Kamgar Maidan in Parel. However, the presence of Shiv Sena has not been confirmed yet.

Maharashtra Congress has convened a party meeting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) on January 24. 

The meeting cum protest will be held at Kamgar Maidan in Parel and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will also participate in the same. 

Other allies to anti-CAA front constituted by Congress will also register their protest against CAA, NRC. However, the presence of Shiv Sena has not been confirmed yet. 

The matter is beyond political lines and everyone is coming together to oppose the CAA and NRC. The proposed citizenship act is a serious threat to the constitution. Therefore, everyone stands firmly against the same," said Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant. 

Apart from Congress and NCP, other political parties including Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Janata Dal (Secular), Peasants and Workers Party of India, Muslim League will participate in the protest at Kamgar Maidan in Parel along with various other organisations.

Social Activist Feroze Mithiborwala said that many activists have urged the state government to take a political stand on the issue and send a clear message to the BJP-ruled centre that Maharashtra opposes the CAA. 

Mithiborwala further said that the protests against CAA have been organised by common people in Maharashtra.

We have urged the political parties to come together which will send a clear signal to the centre,” said Feroze Mithiborwala.
