Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole, on Wednesday, November 17, stated that the Maharashtra Congress will take legal action against Bollywood actor, Kangana Ranaut for her alleged defamatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, reported news agency ANI.

Patole added that Congress will register an official complaint against her with Mumbai police.

Earlier on Tuesday, November 16, Ranaut claimed that Subhash Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh did not receive support from Mahatma Gandhi, stated a report by the news agency PTI. Based on the narrative, she then went on to mock his mantra of "ahimsa" by mentioning that offering another cheek gets you "bheekh" and not freedom.

Last week, also she claimed that India received Independence as "bheekh" and proclaimed that freedom came in 2014 when the government led by Narendra Modi came to power.

According to reports, whilst Ranaut's Twitter account has been suspended, she took to Instagram to make the comments. Her "azaadi" comment came at an event just two days after she was accorded the Padma Shri by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Whilst many believe that she's making such remarks for publicity, narratives mentioned that veteran Marathi actor Vikram Gokhale on Sunday, November 14, gave his support to the actor.
