On Tuesday, former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mumbai, in the presence of the party's state president and minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
Jadhav, who announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket last year, expressed his respect for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj after joining the party. He shared his reason for entering politics, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra are working towards the development and welfare of the people. This is why I felt compelled to align myself with the party.”

Bawankule welcomed Jadhav into the BJP, emphasizing his transition from representing cricket to contributing his experience and skills to the party. He highlighted that the BJP has always embraced individuals from diverse fields, showcasing the party’s inclusive and accommodating nature.
