Metro 3 car shed will not be constructed in Aarey: Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh

Former Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said that if Congress comes to power in Maharashtra, the metro 3 car shed will not be built in Aarey colony while asserting that Aarey forest is essential for Mumbai.

If Congress comes to power in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, the metro car shed will not be constructed in Aarey,” asserted Jairam Ramesh.

While addressing a press conference during his visit in Aarey, Ramesh joined the “Aarey Bachao” (Save Aarey) movement while opposing the decision, of cutting 2,700 trees, taken by Tree Authority of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

We have many political differences with Shiv Sena but on one thing I will support them – in the matter of the environment. However, in Aarey issue, merely statements will not work. I would like Shiv Sena to explain its ally that cutting of trees in Aarey is not good for the environment,” said Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh.

Ramesh, a Rajya Sabha MP, has appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with concerned authorities to find an alternative for constructing metro car shed. Moreover, the former Union Minister has demanded to preserve the Aarey colony in suburban Goregaon.
