Along with the ruling party leaders, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray also hailed Modi government over its decision to scrap Article 370 which provides special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Thackeray, who has become a staunch critic of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Modi-Shah duo, praised the central government after Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution to revoke Article 370.

After a long time, the central government makes an exceptional decision,” MNS chief Raj Thackeray tweeted.

Since the past few years, the MNS chief has criticised the Modi government and its policies on several occasions and issues - from demonetisation to bullet train project. 

Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, despite his party not contesting the same, Thackeray organised campaigned across Maharashtra against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah while asking the people not to vote for the duo. 

Ahead of Maharashtra assembly polls which are scheduled to happen in October this year, Thackeray along with the opposition in announced that they will protest on August 21 against the use of EVMs in elections while demanding the use of ballot papers in the upcoming assembly polls.

Earlier this month, Thackeray met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in order to discuss electoral reforms and to unite the opposition on the issue of “EVM scam”.
