The daughter of MLA Geeta Jain from Mira Bhayandar area adjacent to Mumbai has become a victim of online fraud. The 31-year-old married daughter of local MLA Geeta Jain became a victim of cyber fraudsters. Geeta Jain's daughter was defrauded of over INR 79,000 when she was trying to pay for sweets ordered online by her mother-in-law on Thursday.

In her statement to the police, the complainant said that she received a call from her mother-in-law and asked her to make an online payment of INR 480 for the sweets she had ordered. The complainant immediately scanned the QR code sent to her and made the payment. A few minutes later, she received a call on her WhatsApp number from an unknown person who claimed to be an employee of a sweet shop. Under the guise of GST confirmation, the caller convinced him to open his Google Pay account.

However, he apologised and convinced her to repeat the entire process. Same amount was deducted from her account again. By the time she realised the evil intentions of the cyber criminals, the complainant had lost INR 79,492.

An offense has been registered against the culprits at Navghar police station under relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act. Further investigation is underway.
