Maharashtra government has declared that the Maratha community will be provided reservation under a new category - Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) – and the same will not hamper with the Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation quota.

However, the implementation process still lacks clarity. While talking to Mumbai Live, OBC leader Prakash Anna Shendge said that Maratha community should get a reservation but not under OBC category. Shendge informed that the constitutional meaning of SEBC is OBC and they will protest regarding the same on November 29 at Azad Maidan.

With Maharashtra government declaration of introducing Maratha Reservation Bill on November 29 while accepting the recommendations of the State Backward Class Commission report which suggests 16 per cent reservation for the community, the OBC leaders are doubting the state government’s intentions. Earlier, they had opined that the government will provide reservation to Maratha community under OBC category.

OBC leader Shendge said that it will be unfair if Maratha community is given reservation under OBC quota. He informed that the government is misleading people without giving any clarifications.

We also want the reservation for Maratha community but it should be given independently. Maharashtra government is misleading people regarding the issue. Therefore, the OBC organisations have decided to protest against the same at Azad Maidan,” Shendge asserted.
