ыSenior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis attacked Shiv Sena for taking a different position in Parliament on the agriculture bills. Fadnavis, former Maharashtra Chief Minister, accused Shiv Sena of being a confused party.
“Shiv Sena is a confused party. They play different roles in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. When they (Shiv Sena) was in power with us, they took the role of both the ruling party and opposition. It is important to decide on a role first. Shiv Sena has never taken a stand on agriculture and doesn’t have any policy on it,” Devendra Fadnavis said.
The farmers and not opposed to the agriculture bills and they welcome it, Fadnavis said while claiming that some leaders are opposing it to run their own shops. This is not a political issue and BJP’s top priority is to stop the exploitation of farmers, he added.
Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut criticised the central government over agriculture bills. “Could BJP guarantee that there would be no farmer suicide with these bills?” Raut had asked in Rajya Sabha. However, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant welcomed the bills in Lok Sabha.
Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that Shiv Sena needs to decide on its policy on agriculture first. The BJP leader said that instead of doing politics, they should take a firm stand.
“Shiv Sena doesn’t have a policy on agriculture. They are in power in Maharashtra. Will they take guarantee that not a single farmers will commit suicide?” Fadnavis said.
Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, further said that the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) government In 2006 had allowed contract farming in the state but they are opposing it when the central government is doing the same for the whole country.
