Mumbai - A laptop for a thousand rupees is the latest sop for the city's corporators. After the election code of conduct kicked in on Wednesday, the municipal corporation announced that laptops and sim cards, issued to the corporators earlier, could be retained by them on payment of Rs 1000.
The municipal corporation had given out 232 laptops and sim cards over the last few years. Previous years' scheme had pegged the resale value of such laptops at Rs 22,000, with the result that none of the corporators bought them. This time, the value of the laptops, worth Rs 37000 has been pegged at Rs 1,000. Corporators have used this laptop for past five years and as per IT department prices of the laptop are decreasing up to 60 per cent with every passing year. We assume there will be a beeline for this unique buy back scheme.
