Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam has decided to implement the plastic-free Maharashtra plan starting from Mantralaya.

The decision to ban plastic bottles in the office premises will be taken after a meeting with all the departments of the ministry is called for and accordingly, steps will be taken, said Kadam in a meeting held in this regard.

This rule is not only for the Mantralaya, but plastic bottles and bags are banned in all government offices. Steps have also been initiated to provide eco-friendly options to the plastic bags/bottles used for milk, oil and medicines.

Laws for environmental conservation have been made and there is a provision of criminal action against hotels and vendors who do not comply with this law. Unfortunately, as this law isn’t been taken seriously, the environment is affected directly.

The officials are considering imposing a 3-6 month jail term and license cancellation if people are found violating this law.

Steps have also been taken to promote cloth bags in the state by creating a special program to spread awareness among citizens in the form of environmental conservation.
