Reports suggest Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Gujrat and Diu on Wednesday, May 19 in order to review the situation with regards to Cyclone Tauktae.

Moreover, PM Modi is touted said to depart to Bhavnagar at 9.30 am on Wednesday and will proceed for an aerial survey of Una, Diu, Jafarabad and Mahuva. He is also touted to conduct a review meeting at Ahmedabad.

In recent developments, as many as 45 people have been killed due to Cyclone Tauktae across 12 districts of Gujarat. Furthermore, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan on Tuesday had informed us that the "worst is over" and Cyclone Tauktae will "become a depression" by today evening. He also added, "The cyclone has weakened into a cyclonic storm level and probably in another couple of hours it will become a cyclonic system which is a much lower category. By the time it reaches the Gujarat coast in the late evening, it would have become a depression...The worst is over"

However, on a surprising note, there have been no reports of him visiting Maharashtra or Kerela, especially since he is conducting a survey of some of the cyclone-affected parts of neighbouring Gujarat and Diu.

On the other hand, earlier on Monday, May 17, at least 14 people lost their lives and 18 others were injured as an aftermath of the cyclone in Maharashtra. Of these, four people died and two were injured in Raigad district, a sailor was killed in Sindhudurg district while two others were injured. Meanwhile, in Jalgaon, two died of tree fall. Whereas, three died and one injured in Thane, while Palghar reported two deaths. Moreover, two people died in Ratnagiri after coming in contact with the electric wire whereas eight others were injured.
