A fight broke out between voters, candidates, police and polling booth officers at Mankhurd this afternoon. Joint police commissioner Deven Bharti and his team had to intervene at the scuffle that ensued in PMG Colony and bring the situation under control.
Voters in Mankhurd, Trombay, Ghatkopar, Chembur, and Tilak Nagar had been facing several issues during the poll process since morning. Many of the voters went to the polling booth with their voter cards, only to see their names missing from the voters' list. “When I went to vote, I did not see my name. There is a lot of chaos going on and we are running since morning for voting,” said a resident. Another resident complained that her name was missing from the list and there was no clarity about the correct polling booth.
The chaos finally erupted in a fracas between voters, candidates, police and polling booth officers. Joint police commissioner Deven Bharti along with his officers rushed to the PMG colony and bought the situation under control. “Yes, there was a problem initially due to faulty voters' list. Now, another list will be arranged and so the problem will be solved. Also, to avert any mishaps, we have stationed more than 35,000 police officers at the polling booths and mobile patrolling is also going on,” Bharti said.
