Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray issued a statement in the wake of the Karnataka assembly elections. "If the government in Karnataka is going to harass the Marathi people, try to strangle the Marathi language, it will not be tolerated," Raj Thackeray warned. He also appealed to the Marathi voters in the background of the Karnataka elections.

Raj Thackeray said, “Voting for the Karnataka assembly elections is on May 10. My appeal to my Marathi voting brothers and sisters in the border areas is to vote unitedly for the Marathi candidate. No matter which party the candidate belongs to, he must be Marathi speaking and after he is elected, he must speak out against the ongoing strangulation of the Marathi language and the injustice done to the Marathi people over the years in the Legislative Hall.

"I am of the firm opinion that you must respect the state you belong to, the language and culture of the state. The brothers living in the border area for many generations have respected the Kannada language and culture here. But if the government there is going to harass the Marathi people, try to strangle the Marathi language, then it will not be tolerated," warned Raj Thackeray.

Raj Thackeray further said, “In the meantime, when the Karnataka government once again tried to create disharmony by fomenting borderism, I had said that Karnataka and Maharashtra are basically homogenous. Many people here have their clan deities in Karnataka, while many Kannadigas have their clan deities in Maharashtra. In short, the bond between the two states is strong."

Let the government of any party come in power

“Then if the Karnataka government actually takes a conciliatory stance, there will be no time for conflict. But let the government of any party come in power, there is no difference in their behavior. That is why there should be Marathi-speaking MLAs in the Vidhan Bhavan, who will represent the Marathi identity of that area, people who will raise their voice for the issues of Marathi people,” Raj Thackeray opined.
