Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray got engaged to longtime girlfriend Mitali Borude, a Mumbai-based fashion designer, in a ceremony today. The date of the engagement, December 11 happens to be the wedding anniversary of Raj Thackeray and his wife Sharmila Thackeray as well. The rings were exchanged at Tote On The Turf, Mahalaxmi.
The couple is expected to get hitched early in 2018.
Amit, who is a commerce graduate from DG Ruparel College has been dating Mitali for more than five years now. Mitali is a close friend of Amit’s sister Urvashi and has a clothes label called 'The Rack', which she launched a few years ago.
Amit was soft-launched into politics by his father during the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections in which Amit held road shows in Mumbai. He started a Facebook page to interact with the voters and attract the youth during the 2017 civic polls. The page grew in popularity and has more than a million followers today.
Amit’s rivals include his cousin and the leader of the Yuva Sena Aaditya Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray’s son. Yuva Sena gathered following in Mumbai since its launch in 2010. In an attempt to revive MNS’s waning popularity, it is anticipated that Thackeray will launch Amit into politics soon.
