Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Ramdas Athawale assured to hold a meeting with the Union Ministry of Environment regarding CRZ permission for development of the stupa and surrounding areas of Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, that is the memorial of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in Mumbai. He was addressing a meeting in the city on Monday, November 1, while reviewing the preparations for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's 66th Mahaparinirvana Day, which is celebrated every on December 6.
Lakhs of followers visit Chaityabhoomi to pay obeisance to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvana day. MoS Social Justice and Empowerment said that this year, the number of followers may increase to a large extent, therefore, the administration should plan appropriately to provide all conveniences for the followers.
Guardian Minister for Mumbai Deepak Kesarkar, MP Rahul Shewale, MLA Sada Saravankar along with the officials of various departments of the Government of Maharashtra were present for this meeting. Dr. Athawale said that Chaityabhoomi is a holy place. In view of COVID-19 possibility of a large number of followers visiting Chaityabhoomi after COVID-19; Railways, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC), Home Department and Social Justice Department as well as all the implementing agencies should be well prepared for this occasion.
He said that the BMC should take action at the earliest to enlarge the Stupa at Chaityabhoomi. He also said that the instructions of the people’s representatives and Mahaparinirvana Day Coordination Committee should be considered for the beautification of this area. The railway administration should also cooperate with the followers travelling by train. He said that the police administration should take precautions to avoid any untoward incident. He also suggested hoisting the national flag of India in Chaityabhoomi area on completion of 75 years of nation’s independence.
