Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson, Nawab Malik on Friday demanded the removal of Minister of State (MoS) for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur, over his “goli maro” (shoot the traitors) remark.

Malik has asked the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take action against Anurag Thakur for his remark which allegedly incited violence in Delhi against the protestors in Delhi.

After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a major defeat in 2020 Delhi assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah admitted that his party leaders shouldn’t have made a statement like “goli maro” and “Indo-Pakistan match” during the poll campaign.

Amit Shah further stated that the BJP may have suffered because of  the hate statements made by its leaders.

“Amit Shah has said that Anurag Thakur’s shooting remarks were wrong. If he really thinks that he was wrong, if they actually mean to condemn the statement made by Thakur, they should remove him from the cabinet,” said Malik while reacting to Shah’s remarks.

The NCP leader further added that the BJP always wants to polarise the society so that they could benefit from the same during the election period.

Anurag Thakur’s remarks before the 2020 Delhi assembly polls concluded created huge chaos among the opposition leaders. After Thakur said “Desh ke gaddaron ko goli maro”, a young man named ‘Rambhakt’ Gopal Sharma shot a protestor in an anti-CAA protest march which was being carried out by the students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).

Another incident happened near Shaheen Bagh in Delhi where the women have been protesting against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). A young man named Kapil Gujjar fired a shot in Shaheen Bagh’s vicinity. However, no one was injured there.
