On Thursday, December 3, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut underwent angioplasty at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. He had been admitted in the hospital on December 2, 2020.

A coronary angioplasty is a procedure used to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries. The Shiv Sena MP had undergone the surgery last year. However, he has been suffering again, as per reports. According to sources, heart specialist Dr Mathew will perform angioplasty on Sanjay Raut. After the operation last year, Raut was scheduled to undergo another operation in April 2020, however, the surgery was postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

In the procedure performed on Thursday, two stents have been placed. He will remain in the hospital for the next few days. As per reports, he is recuperating nicely.

The Shiv Sena leader is an integral part of the ruling Mahavikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra and is known to be outspoken with strong, angular opinions. Earlier, Raut had slammed the BJP for the raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on properties of party MLA Pratap Sarnaik as "political vendetta" for taking a firm stand against a "television channel" with regards to the Anvay Naik suicide case.

Raut was also involved in a duel with Bollywood actress Kanana Ranaut after the latter compared Mumbai to PoK on her Twitter handle.
