On Friday, January 8, NCP chief Sharad Pawar took to his Twitter account to inform about a former Shiv Sena leader from Solapur joining the party. He, however, deleted that Tweet a little later.

A former Sena leader Mahesh Kothe and his associates met Pawar in Mumbai but did not join the party, sources said.

As Sena, NCP and Congress is in alliance in Maharashtra, workers and leaders of one party crossing over to another has created tensions in the alliance in the past.

According to reports as on Thursday, January 7, it suggested that Kothe was leaving the Sena, while on Friday, January 8, the Sena's Solapur unit announced his expulsion.

In his tweet, Pawar wrote, "Leader of Opposition in Solapur Municipal Corporation Mahesh Kothe and his colleagues joined the Nationalist Congress Party today. Welcome, all into the party and the Maha Vikas Aghadi." But later the tweet disappeared.

As per sources, Kothe met Pawar but did not join the party. Hence, the Tweet was deleted by Pawar's social media team.

In another Tweet, Pawar said that Solapur city used to follow the ideology of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, but its face "changed' due to some people inspired by the BJP's ideology.

Kothe and his associates are working to solve issues faced by the people, Pawar said.

Last year, five Shiv Sena councillors from Parner in Ahmednagar district joined the NCP, creating a flutter within the ruling alliance. The councillors, however, returned to the Shiv Sena later.
