Byculla - Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji's mother Jijamata was born on this day in 1598, according to some accounts.
Shiv bhakts marked the day as Rajmata Jijau's birth anniversary across the city today. Mumbai mayor Snehal Ambekar and MNS corporator from ward 208, Samita Sanjay Naik offered flowers to Jijamata’s statue at Jija Mata Udyan and sought her blessings. Shiv bhaks were busy for the preparations of Jijau’s anniversary from Thursday morning.
Jijamata's birth anniversary is marked every year on Poush Purnima, according to the Hindu calendar. As per the Gregorian calendar, her birth date is 12 January, according to some accounts.
