In a sudden move, Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant on Monday resigned from his position and submitted the resignation to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Sawant was working even after his term as the MLC was over on July 7, 2018.
It is mandatory for a minister to be elected in one of the two houses in the state assembly. After Sawant submitted his resignation, CM Fadnavis accepted the same and charged Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde with an additional responsibility of health ministry. Shinde was appointed to handle the additional charge after Uddhav Thackeray gave a nod.
